Kalda Street Dormitory: A Town Growing Up
Reveal a group of students on their way from a brand-new dormitory — and discover the years when Narva doubled in size.

The story
Look at the young women coming towards you along the path: short dresses, books and bags in their hands. Behind them stands a brand-new five-storey dormitory. The photographer, Viktor Salmre, called the picture simply: Vocational training. Girls coming from the dormitory.
He took it some time between 1964 and 1975. Everything in the frame is new: the pale brick, the concrete path, the flower bed that has only just been planted, the thin saplings on the left. This is Narva being built for people who had only just arrived.
